Being a psychotherapist is deeply gratifying as I see my client's progress and become the person they truly are. It is very empowering for clients to learn they can successfully overcome issues that at one time were disconcerting to them.
It has been extremely rewarding to be a Marriage and Family Therapist for over twenty years, and at the Brookwood Center since 1996. During this time I have worked with individuals, couples and families. I also co-lead two ongoing psychotherapy groups: one for men and the other for women and men. I am proud to be a partner at this place of healing.
Helping people work their way through, whether it's one issue or many, over a course of time, is the goal. We'll work together to identify the problem and collaboratively find goals that address the issue. Those goals can include reading a book and learning new, healthy skills that address your issue as you move towards balance in your life. It's difficult to function optimally if you can't find these solutions.
Therapy is also about dealing with longer term issues or unhealthy behaviors that limit you from being your optimal self. Increasing your awareness of what motivates your behavior and even sometimes, your thoughts, leads to healing. The goal here is to get through and even past, the hold that the issue or issues can have on your life. Therapy can help you experience the tremendous inner balance, freedom, and ongoing self-acceptance and compassion that is in you, but may not be experienced.
